Notes on the half-hour braiding:
ORBIT— Jodi (3rd Person is a gravity counterweight.)
when breaking, come back around to the group — circles
DYNAMIC CHANGE— GO! Always go into it. to slow: let it settle by increasing the friction of the gaze. Intesifying the gaze works
EYES must be claer— if they ARE clear, then ANYTHING can work.
slower = more intricate
allow it to stop if it needs to.
CALM keep calm.
2 people fall together — give onice to 3rd person
whipping is great—go into it
Vocavulary for the spatial pattern:
jodi’s arm, Jillians heavy foot step, Carly’s turn. EXCELLENT!
when the duet moves away, it pulls teh anchor through.
GATE MOVES
*SEE who’s free & who’s stabile.
PUSH
mimic?
As a duet moves through space, fall & recover.
alwasy keep the motion. Redirect.
only stop when you happen to stop.

THNK YOU SO MUCH!
ABOVE (in green) you can see notes from today as well. We began rehearsal by having a 1/2-hour session of the braiding pattern, using our bodies to really investigate it more deeply. You can see my notes there.
It was very productive! WE spent time verbally analyzing it as well, which i filmed.
We ended with a new study of a pattern that started to emerge in teh improv. = the GATE (DUET) moves around the anchor (solo). Thus, it is about group momentum rather than solo push-pull. it has a culminating feeling, but also a dep logic. It is less competitive, but equally connected. WE are only beginning to find what it is.
I’m very excited to add this idea to the braid. AND to see how (and if) any of this will owrk with 4 people. Sydor is back on thursday & I will have al four finally.
Lastly, I just want to mention a few possible ctructures that I’ve had percolating in my mind. 1) cool to warm (to cool?)
—is there a way for the piece itself to warm the dancers? can teh natural progression of the body getting looser & freer be a structure? It woudl seem great to me as a dancer & I think it may supply a truly organic structre for the work.
A natural arch— rising (warming) action
climax (bliss/exhaustion) — climax
falling (cooling) action.
2)Apollonian vs. Dionysian
Can I have both? Can there be a slow shift from one to the other? the pattern is becomign more and more human. Can it continue in this path? How do i have an essential form with individuals? I want to honoro both my desire or perfection/acheivement and the attention to teh moment nd conicidence.
Time as constant vs. Time as moment
Shape as object vs. Shape as percetion
Absolute vs. Relative
Beauty vs. Love.
